Winter Wonders

A fresh blanket of snow covers the property, making all things bright.  Dad ponders how many hours it will take to plow as he gazes out the window, sipping his cup of coffee.

Chores take longer than usual after fresh snowfall.  There are kitty castles to be built, snowballs to be thrown, paths to be trudged, ice to be broken.  Even the dogs revel in the freshness of it all – rolling, tumbling, chasing.

Once again we marvel at the seasons.  Trees which just a few months ago were laden with fruit now stoically bear their winter burdens.  Mom ponders spring pruning now that their skeletons show, while Dad considers the snow load on the roof and nearby trees.

The hoarfrost of a few weeks ago is vanished, and we dig through the shop to excavate our sleds.  The children are now connoisseurs of snow, knowing what is too slushy, or too dry for snowballs, or snowmen, or sledding (not that it prevents their enjoyment of it!).  Their waiting has borne fruit, and they are ready to enjoy a perfect snow!

Psalm 147:15-18
He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.
He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
He sendeth out his word, and melteth them:
he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
